Where East and West work in perfect harmony
As China rises as a global economic power, Mandarin is fast becoming the language for many young people to master. As studies show that children acquire languages naturally up to the age of eight, EtonHouse Broadrick recognised the potential of introducing a Chinese-English primary-level bilingual programme.
In 2011, we became one the first international school in Singapore to offer this study option, aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years programme. Our track record speaks for itself – a two-time champion in the Singapore Chinese Language Competition for International Schools organised by HSK Centre (Crestar) and five cohorts of fluent bilingual speakers.
Watch your child grow in confidence under the EtonHouse Bilingual Programme, for Pre-School & Primary Years.
Double the language, more than double the fun
Our unique dual language classroom setting helps your child acquire both languages spontaneously and effectively. Two qualified teachers (one native Mandarin speaker and one native English speaker) jointly plan and teach each lesson, taking turns to deliver different parts of the session in their native tongues. Throughout the day, children build and practise targeted vocabulary through natural conversations and completion of planned tasks.
To develop and hone their reading and writing skills, your child also attends two daily 45-minute sessions – one for English and one for Mandarin – that focus on and reinforce the essentials of each language, particularly in grammar and sentence construction.
Our small class sizes are the perfect setting for peer learning and one-to-one interactions between children and teachers. Your child will hone their speaking skills through song, poetry, presentations, conversations and reading aloud. They’ll soon be able to spontaneously engage those around them in both English and Mandarin.
Immerse your child in a whole new world
At EtonHouse, we take bilingualism to the next level. Through our various bilingual and bicultural initiatives, your child will explore the Chinese culture through field trips and participate in engaging extracurricular activities where opportunities to speak Mandarin abound. From board games and reading programmes to concerts and public speaking at assemblies, each activity is designed to instil confidence and set your child up for success in the next phase of their fun-filled learning journey.
Your partner in learning – in school and beyond
We go the extra mile for greater continuity in learning by partnering with and supporting parents, something you won’t find in other schools. Our teachers provide regular updates on what’s being taught in school to reinforce the same concepts and vocabulary at home.
Give your child the gift of language that will benefit them for the rest of their lives. Come visit us and learn more about our Bilingual Programme.
